FPI’s BETP-Aligned Agricultural Initiatives
Moringa: an anchor for agricultural transformation
Farmer’s Pride International entered the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme (BETP) process with a Moringa Agriculture-Based Cluster initiative. Using Moringa oleifera as the anchor crop, the programme connects farmer training, organised production, local value addition and export markets.
Progress reported by FPI
7,000 farmers trained in Moringa oleifera production
50 Agriculture-Based Clusters registered
150 farmers growing Moringa
Four farmers contributed to the first export to Germany, adding to production from FPI’s Uphopia Farms subsidiary.
Three buyers available: two in Germany and one in South Africa.
Our ambition
153,000 jobs targeted — 53,000 direct and 100,000 indirect.
USD 4.5 million was the initial loan request.
These figures describe programme targets and a financing request. They do not represent jobs already created or funding secured.
Growing market opportunities
One larger German buyer has expressed interest in contract farming for:
-
Moringa Grade C
-
Stevia leaves
-
Lemon balm leaves
-
Peppermint leaves
-
Strawberry leaves
-
Turmeric root slices
-
More acidic Hibiscus sabdariffa calyces
-
A more pungent/spicy ginger variety
This is buyer interest. Confirmed contract terms and production commitments will be reported separately.

Official programme information
The official BETP agriculture investment opportunities page lists an Agriculture-Based Cluster (ABC) entry, currently naming the BETP Secretariat as project owner. The link below provides programme context; it does not establish government endorsement of FPI or approval of the Rasesa and Tuli Block proposals.
