Soil Science and Soil Stewardship
Understand the soil beneath your enterprise. Soil stewardship brings field observations, sampling, laboratory information and farm records together to support better land-management decisions.
Â
Start with your field
Record the crop, field history, irrigation, soil cover, drainage, compaction and visible erosion. Mark areas that behave differently and keep dated photographs and observations for comparison.
Â
Make testing useful
Before collecting samples, confirm the laboratory, sampling instructions and tests needed for your crop and location. Keep samples traceable to the field and ask a qualified adviser to interpret results alongside your farm conditions. Avoid applying inputs solely from a generic example.
